Washington, DC Tours

As an efficiency measure, the Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) facilities located in Washington, D.C. and Fort Worth, Texas will shut down operations at the close of business on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 through Friday, January 2, 2015.
 
Both Tour and Visitor Centers will close to the public at close of business on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. The Washington, D.C. Tour and Visitor Center will re-open to the public on Monday, January 5, 2015. The Fort Worth Tour and Visitor Center will re-open to the public on Tuesday, January 6, 2015.

Located in the heart of the Nation's Capital, the BEP's Washington, DC Tour and Visitor Center is a great place to learn all about U.S. paper currency.  You can see millions of dollars being printed as you walk along the gallery overlooking the production floor!  The free 40-minute experience includes an introductory film and gallery tour of the production process.  The visitor center includes exhibits and currency products for sale.

 

The Tour and Visitor Center is closed on weekends, Federal holidays, and the week between Christmas and New Years Day.

 

The BEP is a federal government organization and adheres to closure, late arrival or early dismissal guidance issued by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).  OPM determines the Federal agency operating status for the Washington, DC area.
Non-Peak Season Hours
September - February
No tickets required

Space is given on a first-come, first-served basis with the line forming at the Visitor Entrance on 14th Street.
 
Tours run every 15 minutes from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with advance reservations held for large groups between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.  The Visitor Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (door closes at 3:00 p.m.).
Ticketing
Tickets are required from March 3 to August 29, 2014. The ticket booth is located on Raoul Wallenberg Place (formerly 15th Street). The ticket booth opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes when all tickets have been distributed. After 1:00 p.m., if there are any tickets remaining, they can be picked up at the tour entrance located at 14th and C Streets, S.W. Please try to arrive early as tickets go quickly.

Extended tour hours are in effect from March 24 to August 29, 2014. The ticket booth opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes when all tickets have been distributed.
After 1:00 p.m., if there are any tickets remaining, they can be picked up at the tour entrance located at 14th and C Streets, S.W. Please try to arrive early as tickets go quickly.

Tours leave every 15 minutes from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 to 3:45 p.m., and 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. (last tour of the day), with advance reservations held for large groups between 11:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Tours last approximately 40 minutes. The Visitor Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The tour entrance doors will close at 6:00 p.m.

Policies

Cameras are allowed in the facility, but their use in the tour gallery is prohibited.

Visitors must pass through a metal detector and belongings will be screened before entering the building.

 

Strollers are allowed in the facility, but may not be taken on the tour.

Anyone found in violation of BEP policies as written or explained by the tour guides, will be escorted off the premises by a police officer. Visitors must follow the direction of the BEP Police while on BEP property.

Groups

Tours for groups of 10 or more people run every 15 minutes from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. There is a 50-person maximum.  Group tours MUST be scheduled in advance with the tour office. Congressional Tours

The BEP grants special requests for tours made through the office of your local United States Senator or Representative. These tours take place Monday through Friday at 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. April through August, Congressional tours also run every 15 minutes from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Please contact your local United States Senator or Representative for more information.
